So one of the GOLDEN Rules of a no-fuss approach in the kitchen is to adapt what you know, rather than constantly reinventing the wheel. And from the spooky, ghoulish world of Halloween, is a perfect example - Gingerbread Mummies.
Here, I used my favourite gingerbread recipe and cut out the shapes with a classic gingerbread man (+ baby) cutter. The mixture made 8 mummies and 6 babies. Then I mixed some white icing (just icing sugar + water) and used it to fill a piping bag with a fine nozzle. I stuck on 2 Smarties for the eyes and then piped on the bandages.
TOP TIP - The stiffer the icing, the harder it is to squeeze out the icing - I was losing the will to live after the first two but adding a drop of extra water helped. Beware of going too runny though, or you'll have a big mess on your hands. Literally.
These Gingerbread Mummies were one part of a no fuss Halloween evening where much fun was had by all and we lived to tell the tale - until next year ....
